“We always need plenty of volunteers,” said Club President, Adrian Desbarats, “And not all positions require people to have experience with the game of soccer.” Being involved as a coach or even a manager not only provides the Club with valuable support but can provide you with great personal value as well.

For example, if you are a parent of a player, volunteering gives you the chance to spend some quality time with your child. For those of you who have an athletic background, you get to share your love of sport with the kids and to be a good role model for staying active. Getting involved with the Club is also a great way to expand your social network and help create community. You’ll get to re-learn important life lessons as you help the players experience those lessons for the first time. And of course, you will require training in order to volunteer which gives you the opportunity to learn a new set of skills or polish an existing set while practising your own leadership skills.

And volunteers will be provided with excellent support from the beginning until the end of their experience with the Club. Adds Desbarats, “We have excellent resources in our Club Manager, Anne Morgan and Technical Director, Joel MacDonald. They are knowledgeable, friendly, patient and are there for all the volunteers to make their experience as easy and enjoyable as possible.”

The Club has applied for a Canada Soccer Club Licence and the required volunteer certifications are a part of the application process. Says Desbarats, “Achieving this Licence will show that we deliver our programs while abiding by a set of administrative, financial and technical standards outlined by Canada Soccer.” The Club’s overall goal is to raise the value members receive from programming.

This goes hand in hand with the value you can personally experience by volunteering. Through serving others, you can experience the pride and satisfaction of making a difference within your community.
